Who We Serve
Property owners and builders dealing with steep terrain, shoreline erosion, or hillside lots that need stabilization.
Problems we solve
We design and build retaining walls that hold the slope, protect the property, and look good doing it, on residential and small commercial projects across North Idaho.
In North Idaho, the Best Lots Often Come With the Steepest Slopes
From Hayden Lake shoreline to the hillsides above Coeur d’Alene, the most desirable property in the region sits on terrain that needs holding. Quality has to start from the ground up. Whether you’re stabilizing an eroding lakefront or building a new walkout on a slope, we engineer and build walls that hold for the long haul.
What We Build, From Boulder to Block
Most properties end up with one wall type or a mix. Here’s how the work breaks down.
Boulder Walls
Decorative and engineered boulder walls for residential, hillside, and lakefront properties.
Tilt rotator placement for precision on tight lots
Foundation prep and drainage built into every wall
Stone selection coordinated to match the property
Manufactured Concrete Block Walls
Engineered concrete block retaining systems for steep slopes and structural applications.
Engineered designs for height and load specifications
Geogrid reinforcement where the slope calls for it
Clean architectural finish for visible installations
Hillside Stabilization
Erosion control and slope stabilization for properties dealing with active land movement.
Soil and slope assessment before design
Drainage integration to prevent recurrence
Multi-tier systems where a single wall isn’t enough
Lakefront and Shoreline Walls
Walls designed for the wet, sloped conditions of waterfront property.
Construction designed for moisture and shoreline ground conditions
Coordination with lakefront permitting requirements
Anchored walls that hold against water and shoreline pressure
Working Across North Idaho
We’re based in Athol and serve Kootenai and Bonner Counties, with regular projects in Coeur d’Alene, Hayden, Post Falls, Sandpoint, Bayview, Spirit Lake, and the smaller communities between. For projects outside our usual coverage area, give us a call and we’ll talk through it.
Most Wall Calls Start With One of These Problems
If your project lines up with any of these, we’ve handled it before.
You’re Building a Custom Home on a Slope
Your dream lot has the views, the trees, and a 15% grade. The architect specced retaining walls into the design. You need someone who can build them right alongside the foundation work.
Your Yard Is Slowly Sliding
Erosion has crept in over the past few seasons, the deck is starting to feel less stable, or the soil is showing signs of active movement. You need an honest assessment and an engineered solution.
You’re a Builder Looking for a Wall Sub
The home needs walls and the GC needs them done right. You need a sub who’ll handle drainage, finish, and timing, and who shows up with the equipment to work the steep lots.
Your Lakefront Property Needs Shoreline Protection
Wave action, water level changes, or decades of soil loss have your shoreline retreating. You need a wall that handles the conditions and makes the lakefront usable again.
You Have a Boulder Wall on the Plans Already
The landscape architect or designer specced boulder walls into the property plan. You need someone with the equipment, experience, and stone sourcing to build them.
Your Slope Is Costing You Yard Space
The yard backs into a hill, the driveway hits a steep grade, or there’s an unusable section the family can’t walk on. A well-placed retaining wall reclaims the space.
What Others Say About Us
Retaining Wall Questions We Hear on Every First Call
What's the difference between boulder walls and concrete block walls?
Boulder walls use natural stone for a more rustic, organic look and work well in landscaping, hillside, and lakefront applications. Manufactured concrete block walls are engineered systems designed for taller, structural applications where load specs matter. Most properties end up with one or the other depending on aesthetic preference and slope requirements. We can recommend based on your project.
Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
In most North Idaho jurisdictions, walls over four feet require an engineered design and a permit. Walls under four feet are typically permit-exempt for residential properties, though local rules vary. We handle the engineered design as part of the project. Most clients submit the permit application to their city or county directly to save the extra fee, and we walk you through what’s needed. If you’d rather not deal with it, we can pull the permit on your behalf as a paid add-on.
Will my wall need to be engineered?
Walls over four feet, walls bearing significant loads, and most lakefront installations require engineered designs. Shorter decorative walls usually don’t. We tell you during the site visit which category your project falls into and bring engineering in when it’s needed.
How long does a retaining wall take to build?
Standard residential walls take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks depending on length, height, and access. Engineered walls and lakefront installations take longer because of the additional preparation, drainage work, and inspection requirements. The written quote includes a clear timeline.
Do you handle drainage as part of the build?
Yes. Drainage behind the wall is what determines whether the wall holds for 30 years or starts failing in five. We build drainage into every wall, including drain rock, perforated pipe where needed, and surface grading that moves water away from the structure.
Can you build on steep, lakefront, or hard-to-access lots?
Yes. Our excavator runs a tilt rotator, which gives us precision on tight, sloped, and lakefront sites. We’ve built our residential capability around the lots that require careful access and finish.
Got a Slope, a Shoreline, or a Wall in the Plans?
Let’s Talk.
Tell us about the property, the slope you’re working with, and what the project needs to accomplish. We’ll get back to you within one business day, schedule a site visit if it makes sense, and give you a written quote you can compare against any other bid.
